7 August 2000 New Celica Convertible Confirmed! Set to be released around September or October this year, the model will be the one that resemblance in recent New York Auto Show, minus the big wheels and blue interior. Other than that, it will be the same. The car was designed in the same Toyota's Calty studio that previously designed new Celica. Under the hood, there will be 180hp VVTL-i engine from the GT-S. While for Asia-Pacific region, the 190hp VVTL-i engine from the Japanese version of Celica will power the convertible. The basic 140hp VVT-i engine that powers the MR2 Spyder also likely to be offerred as well. However, there is weight penalty as the convertible hood with real glass window and its motorised device will add another 20 kg (50 pounds) to convertible model. The performance will just slightly slower but it offers pure enjoyment of driving, especially when driving with open top and let the VVTL-i screams above 6000 rpm. One question remain where MR2 Spyder is another Toyota's convertible car, will the Celica Convertible delivers exact pure open top driving enjoyment as MR2 Spyder?
